Employer chops off Indian maid's arm in Saudi Arabia

Saudi, Oct 9 (Agencies): A 58-year-old Indian woman's right arm was chopped off by her employer in Saudi Arabia after she tried to escape, her family has alleged.

The incident reportedly happened on the night of September 29 when Kashturi Munirathinam, working as a domestic help, tried to escape from her employer's house. Her family in Tamil Nadu has alleged that she was being tortured by her employer.

"Kashturi's employer was angered after she apprised local officials about the harassment she was facing there, she was not even provided food," S Vijayakumari, sister of Ms Munirathinam, told news agency PTI.

"When she tried to escape the harassment and torture, her right hand was chopped off by the woman employer. She fell down and sustained serious spinal injuries," Ms Vijayakumari said.

"She has now been hospitalised in Riyadh and is in a serious condition," she said, appealing the government to bring her sister back home "immediately and help in her treatment".

Ms Munirathinam's family claims they got to know about the incident "through agents who sent her to Saudi Arabia". They also claim to have a video message recorded with a mobile phone.

The government has condemned the incident and has demanded "severe punishment" for the accused.

"This is unacceptable. We have taken this up with Saudi authorities. Our embassy is in touch with the victim," External Affairs Ministry Sushma Swaraj said.

The family of Ms Munirathinam, who belongs to Vellore district in Tamil Nadu, says she had gone to Saudi Arabia to work as a domestic help only three months back.

Hand chopping incident: It's unacceptable, says Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi, Oct 9 (PTI):
Terming as "unacceptable" the incident where an Indian woman's hand was chopped off by her employer in Saudi Arabia, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today said the matter has been taken up with Saudi authorities.

"We are very much disturbed over the brutal manner in which Indian lady has been treated in Saudi Arabia," Swaraj said today.

The Minister said Indian embassy is in touch with the victim, 55-year-old Kashturi Munirathinam.

Condemning the incident in strong words, Swaraj said on twitter, "This is unacceptable. We have taken this up with Saudi authorities."

India has demanded that a case of attempted murder be lodged against the culprit.

The family of the woman, working as a domestic help in Saudi Arabia, has alleged that her right hand was chopped off by her employer when she tried to escape harassment and torture.

"This is a very unfortunate and most condemnable incident.

"Our Embassy in Riyadh has taken up the matter with the Saudi Foreign Office and asked for strict action in the matter and severe punishment for the sponsor. We have also sought an independent probe in the incident and urged that a case of attempted murder be lodged against the sponsor so that he is punished, if found guilty as per law," the Spokesperson in the External Affairs Ministry had said.

Munirathinam is currently being looked after in a Saudi hospital.

This is sheer brutality and totally against the teachings of Islam.
This sick employer of Saudi should be severely punished and will be punished as Saudi shariah will be implemented which says "Eye for Eye", where here it will in this case as "Arm to Arm"....

There will be kept one more option of bloodmoney which in Arabic called as 'Diyya' which is a financial compensation. But if the victim do not want to accept it but want the convict punished, then the punishment will and has to be implemented. No escape for the convict.

Wait for the good news where Saudi govt will abide by it's law and provide justice to victim soon. Definitely it will never take years to get justice as how it happens in our country, where in today's news in NDTV it was shown, a 71 year old poor Indian man struggled 38 years to get justice and spent around 17 years of his life in jail and finally got justice.

May Allah provide all of us hidayah(guidance) and walk into the right path and provide justice to every victim.

A crime is a crime. In Dadri, the man was killed because he was said to have eaten Beef. Hence that was a religion motivated crime. It was communal..because the organizations involved were Hindutwa fringe elements.

But in Saudi Arabia.. The woman's hand was chopped off by her employer because she was fleeing the house to escape torture from her employer. This is called DOMESTIC ABUSE. And yes..the Saudi Family must be severely punished for this.

    Bhandarkar & Rudolf
I was an employee of Arabian American Oil Co (Presently Saudi Aramco) for 20 Years. Pork was available in the company stores and all church activities were allowed legally. Alcohol was available, but not openly. Those wanted to distill, company provided a book, named "blue flame" and equipment and best raw material for making alcoholic beverages. In Indian Embassy schools, Arabic is compulsory for some years and in Aramco Schools and American Embassy Schools, there is no Arabic. However, pork and Alcohol of all varieties is available in American facilities in Saudi.

I cannot write all here, only I want to add that what Rudolf wrote is 100% correct. One time during Christmas, there was some problem and when the Aramco Chairman, then an American, telephoned to King's office, in 5 minutes, police cleared all trouble makers from the site.

@Rudolf Mumbai,Dear Rudolf, even they would not go for such a Job .sometimes who marry a UAE:citizen suffer and cant get out of misery ,because they are undergoing more Problems than as we know ,such as loosing children, return back and try to get children through agents.(you know the film not without my daughter). And I know a Indian Lady who worked in Dubai as a nanny when the child had fallen during Play ,told her woman employer threatened her for not taking care slapped and by a second such fall she will push her from above Roof. She remained for a week and went to India on pretext of sickness of her child or husband and never went back.well in UAE.women look after the employees I think. Here what this woman has done a barbaric crime where same should be done to her in return.May the woman get well or recover and go back to her Family.Even when she is to die,let her be in Indias soil.very very sad.Let such act not happen to any even enemy. She went to earn for the Family, and go back as a victim of horrible act of a woman.Should be compensated heavily.

For the love of heaven, of justice and humanity, please bring all our housemaids from Gulf countries, whatever be the consequences. Some of the Arabs are devil incarnates. We do not want our sisters to be targeted like this, no food, torture and sexual abuse. We do not want anything to happen to our sisters, just bring them back. There are plenty of people who will employ them and Govt only has to regulate their wages and monitor on their treatment.

We are not interested Americans standing on queue for Indian visas, but, stop our sisters standing for Arab visas.
