Bengaluru: Lecturers’ protest to turn into indefinite hunger strike

Bengaluru, Apr 10: The protest, by PU lecturers and principals, being held at Freedom Park from April 3 will turn into a hunger strike after the chemistry reexamination is over, said representatives.

The PU lecturers and principals have refused to evaluate PU exam papers. They are waiting for the chemistry reexamination to be held on April 12.

“The government has not responded positively to our demands. In spite of holding so many meetings in the past days, the government has not shown any genuine interest in solving our problems. It has only said that an additional allowance of Rs 500 will be paid to us. In every meeting, the minister gets away by saying he would discuss the matter with the chief minister.” said the representatives.

The government, which has faced embarrassment due to the leak of chemistry paper twice, wants to make sure that reexamination is done promptly without any complaints. As the lecturers will participate in the reexamination since they do not want to inconvenience the students in any way, the government has adapted the ‘wait and see’ policy. Once the reexamination is over, the government is expected to act. If the government does not act, the lecturers and principals will turn the present protest into an indefinite hunger strike from April 13. If that happens, evaluation process will suffer.
