Mangalore, Nov 8: Canara English Higher Primary School in Dongerkeri has bagged Computer Literacy Award at the national level.

The award was given by Communication and Information Technology department of the Union government.

According to the release Canara English Higher Primary School is the only School among the private schools in Karnataka and one among the 25 such institutions in the entire country to bag this award.

Canara High school Association has installed modern computer laboratories in all its institutions and Intel has trained the school faculty and the management.

Gayathri Pai, headmistress of the School received the award from union minister for Communications and Information Technology (CIT) at a programme held at New Delhi recently. The award is open to all recognised schools in the country.

Minister of State for CIT was the chief guest on this occasion.

The award was given in consideration of the performance for the past three years in imparting computer education at these schools. The cash prize with the award is meant for upgrading the infrastructure in the institutions the release added.
