Mangalore: Coastal Fishermen to Stage Protest Nov 21

Mangalore, Nov 9: It was decided at the meeting convened by executive committee of Karnataka Coastal Fishermen  to organize agitations along the coast of Karnataka, on the basis of the call given by National Fishermen Forum, to hold nation-wide protest on Fishermen Day on Wednesday November 21.

The protest will be held demanding the union government, to disengage the enactment of Coastal Management Zone (CMZ), to discontinue excise tax on diesel and road tax, to continue the rebate on out-board engine applicable to ferry boats boats and to fulfill other demands.

It has been decided to take the delegation of fishermen to the governor led by union minister, Oscar Fernandes, related to the issue of de-silting the fisheries port located along the Karnataka coast.  This decision was taken on the backdrop of assurances on de-silting given by former PWD minister, Revanna, remained not realized.
