Bangalore: Woman Patient ‘Raped’ by Hospital Staff

Bangalore, Nov 10: Continuous sexual assault of a woman patient for as long as a month by two staffers of Premier Sanjeevini Hospital in Peenya came to light on Friday when the victim Varalakshmi lodged a complaint with the Peenya police.Police said Varalakshmi (24) suffered dowry-related harassment from her husband, Krishnamurthy. Unable to bear it any longer, she had attempted suicide by consuming poison a month ago.

But she survived after being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Premier Sanjeevini Hospital near Jalahalli cross. During treatment she was allegedly molested by ward boys Sriram and Raju, police said.The victim who was conscious was unable to react to their assaults.

Gradually when the victim was recovering, the two accused allegedly raped her again. The duo threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter, police added.Mustering courage, she petitioned the Peenya police on Friday. Police have detained Sriram for questioning while the other is absconding.

The hospital authorities claimed that she was making false allegations, as she was unable to pay the treatment charges. But the police said that they would investigate and that she would be subjected to a medical test.
