Udupi, Nov 11: A rally and convention was organized near Clock tower here recently, by the district unit of Islamic organization of India known as the ‘SIO- Awakening the Nation’ demanding modification in educational field.

Speaking on the occasion, Mangalore University English department professor Pattabhiram Somayaji lamented the fact that majority of the students are deprived of a value-based educational system in India. The project of multi-national companies in the country especially in the city has made educational institutions mere manufacturing units without any values imparted in education. Education has fallen victim to commercialization and students have become labourers in multinational companies and BPO centers selling their own culture and values, he rued further.

According to Pattabhiram it is not right for politicians to interfere in the affairs of education and to the policies related to it. He also stressed on the need to implement a single educational policy and implored for an education providing single pattern syllabus that too in a regional language.

Further emphasizing on the responsibility of the educational institution, he demanded provision for education to those who are unable to afford a proper one.

SIO district president Ifthikar, former district Co-coordinator Mohammed Hussain, Sanmarg weekly, editor Abdul Kadeer and Farooq Athradi were present on the occasion.
