Mangalore: Derik's Chess School Brings Laurels to City

Mangalore, Nov 11: Derik's Chess School (DCS) players, representing Lourdes Central School, in the city have won the under 14 team championship title in the National Level CBSE Chess Championship 2007-08, which was organized by Modern School, Chennai from October 29 to November 3, said Prasanna Rao, administrator of DCS, at the press conference, here on November 10.
 
The team comprised of Nihal Manjunat (captain), Adith Jagdish, Yashas Salian, Rammohan Bhandary and Akash Harendranat has scored 19.5 points in six rounds and buchholz score 82.5 to secure the title. Adit Jagdish and Yashas Salian also won the board prizes in third and forth boards respectively, with their individual scores of six and five points respectively, he added.
 
The achievement by the school is rarity in the world of chess, hence the school deserves the applause, he added.
 
Derik Pinto, correspondent of DCS was also present at the press conference.
