Udupi, Nov 12: “Corruption which has permeated to all levels in the country should be removed”, declared chairman of Prasar Bharati M V Kamath here on Sunday November 11.

Kamath was speaking at the inaugural function organized by the city consumer’s forum to commemorate the achievements of consumer activists the late P Narayana Rao and the late Vinutha Rao. On this occasion he also released book ‘Consumer Jurisprudence – An Introduction’ compiled by U G Kamath.

The efficacy of the right to information act is yet to be known, it is necessary that this act should be made known to the public. He said that 30 years ago U S Pharmaceutical companies were selling drugs to third world countries at exorbitant rates and were making enormous profits. But this was not brought to the public notice because they had purchased the press and U S news papers, hence nothing was reported. Presspersons in India are no better, they too can be purchased. The best example is film reviews are being routinely purchased by interested parities even editorials in newspapers, he pointed out.

Kamath further informed that the best example for substandard works and corruption is the state of the city roads. “The condition of the roads is such I was not happy to invite my friends to visit me” he lamented.

The programme was inaugurated by deputy general manager of Syndicate bank, Devananda Upadhyaya convener of the forum K Damodar Aithal welcomed the gathering and trustee of the forum A P Kodancha proposed the vote of thanks.

Chief manager of corporation bank Ajith Rao released the second edition of the book ‘Balekadarara Rakhsnege Mahiti Hakku 2005’.

Yes - I too beleive that the only way to prosperity is reducing corruption as we cannot entirely eliminate it - Chanakya's Quote says Straight trees are cut first - But it is straight people who create institutions larger than life. I hope M V Kamath propagates his line of thinking on society and lets unite and make Udupi a model city of the world.
