Mangalore: Congress Denies Role in MCC Forgery Scam

Mangalore, Mar 14: The district Congress has denied its role in the forgery scam that has been haunting MCC from the past few days.

Speaking at a press conference here on Friday March 14, opposition leader Harinath said that his party wants an explanation from Shankar Bhat, newly-elected corporater and others who had alleged that involvement of Congress corporators in the forgery scam cannot be denied.

He urged the authorities concerned to hold transparent and impartial enquiry into the scam regarding the forged signature of Krishna Poojary, commissioner of MCC on official document. The guilty must be punished cutting across political lines and ranks in bureaucracy, he added.

BJP is boasting of successfully unearthing corruption, but it is a mystery why it had been inactive and passive while being the opposition party. It is lamentable that BJP is not aware of even basic norms that the files are not accessible to either corporators or someone else other than the officials concerned. This clearly shows that corporaters have no role to play in the forgery scam, he added.

When asked about the stand of the party about the implementation of Self Assessment Scheme in the city, Harinath said the party is firm on its stand to oppose the scheme.

Shashidar Hegde and Ashraf, former mayors of Mangalore City Corporation and other Congress leaders were present at the press conference.

As election is fast approaching, Congress should bear in mind to come out with stronger statements than try just save its face. Political parties make any statement and get away. Congress should use media and other means to the full extent to bolster its image and prove its innocense lest the the louder who speaks will take the cake away. Saldanha
