Sullia: Pumpset repair - man drowns along with father-in-law

Sullia, Jun 3: A father-in-law and son-in-law duo drowned in a rivulet at Yenekal near Subrahmanya in the taluk on the evening of Friday June 2. This unfortunate incident happened when the youth slipped when his father-in-law was trying to repair a pumpset fitted to the river, and his father-in-law tried to rescue him in vain.

The victims of this accident were Anand Gowda (65), a resident of Banadka in Yenekal village, and his son-in-law, Sunil Gowda (30) from Puthige Anegundi.

Sunil Gowda, who works at Bengaluru, had arrived at Anand Gowda's home along with wife and daughter on Friday morning. In the evening, Anand Gowda accompanied his son-in-law to his plantation. During the visit, Anand had entered the rivulet to address some snag experienced in the foot valve of the pumpset connected to the river. Sunil, who was near his father-in-law suddenly slipped and fell into the rivulet. Anand instantly jumped into the rivulet to save his son-in-law, but he too drowned in the rivulet.

Anand Gowda, a progressive farmer from Yenekal, was also functioning as office bearer of Shankhapala Subrahmanya temple as well as Bachcha Nayaka, Ullakulu-Ullalthi Daivasthana. He is survived by wife, two daughters and a son. His elder daughter had been given in marriage to Sunil Gowda, native of Puthige Anegundi, some years back, and this daughter has a daughter. Sunil is stated to be the eldest of the three sons of Narayana Gowda - Pushpa couple from Anegundi.

Local police circle inspector, Chandrashekhar, rushed to the spot and conducted inquest of the body. A case was registered in Subrhamanya police station and postmortem was conducted in Subrahmanya primary health centre.
