Puttur, Oct 29: Hindu organizations had given a Kadaba bandh call, in protest against what they have termed as repression of Hindus. The bandh call was successful as business establishments, hotels and offices shut down on their own on Saturday October 28.

The Hindu activists have alleged that in a case relating to a post in WhatsApp that had reportedly hurt religious sentiments of a community, Hindu activists who are unconcerned and unconnected with the case are being unnecessarily harassed by the police by making an effort to get their names included in this case.

Kadaba town wore a deserted look. Private transport vehicles carrying people from Kadaba to places like Uppinangady, Mardhala, Kombaru etc were off the roads while government buses moved about normally. Schools, colleges and government offices were open. The government liquor shop was closed and private hospital was open.

Hindu activists and others who came together in the town went in a silent procession and held a protest meeting near the main bus stand at Kadaba. Addressing the protestors, Hindu leader, Arun Kumar Puttila, accused policemen of acting like Congress agents. He said that the police had added the name of Prasad along with the name of the main accused in the said case. He also said that the policemen had unnecessarily kept four persons in the police station and inflicted mental agony on them.

Hindu Jagran Vedike Mangaluru division district co convener, Raviraj Shetty, addressed the protesters. A large number of leaders of Hindu organizations and BJP were present.

BJP leader, Krishna Shetty, delivered the introductory address. Prakash N K welcomed the gathering. Janardhana Rao Adoor proposed the vote of thanks. Mohan Koila compered the programme.

Simultaneously, people from Alankaru town near Kadaba too pledged their solidarity with the cause for which this bandh was called and closed their establishments on Saturday. In Subrahmanya, a bandh was observed from 6 am to 12 pm. Visitors to the temple town were provided with breakfast at Kukke Subrahmanya temple. A meeting of protesters on this occasion was addressed by Bhaskar Dharmasthala.
