Kundapur, Oct 30: "This sports meet is being conducted with the purpose of increasing friendliness and unity among the panchayat representatives. When all participate cutting across party lines, it is possible to forget the differences," said Dinakar Babu, president of Udupi zilla panchayat.
He was speaking after receiving the honours at 'Holapu' sportsmeet for the local and city administration representatives of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi organized under the auspices of Kotathattu gram panchayat and Dr Shivrama Karanth Foundation at Viveka Eductional Institute grounds on Sunday October 29. Dr M N Rajendra Kumar, president of South Canara District Central Co-operative Bank and Karnataka State Co-operative Marketing Federation inaugurated the meet by lighting the lamp.
Pramod Hande, president of Kotathattu gram panchayat, presided over the function. Jayaprakash Hegde, former minister hoisted the flag. Harish Kumar, administration trustee, Shri Mookambika Temple, Kollur declared the meet open by releasing balloons.
Highlights of the meet: The meet commenced after march past by the panchayat members who had come from different parts of the district. In the march past competition, Kota gram panchayat, Vaddarse grama panchayat and Yedthady gram panchayat, bagged first, second and third place respectively. Praveen Shetty, national athlete, was the torch bearer of the meet. The sports meet comprised of competitions in 100 metre race, hammer throw, ring in the wicket, super minute, throwball and tug of war. Cultural competition was held in singing, fancy dress and quiz categories.
Many members of Dakshina Kannada district and also dignitaries who were supposed to attend the meet were absent due to the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Sree Kshetra Dharmasthala on Sunday October 29.
Sreenivasa Poojary, MLC, Kota, Nalini Pradeep Rao, president Udupi taluk panchayat, Jayashree Mogaveera, president, Kundapur taluk panchayat, Roshan Shetty, officer, District Youth Empowerment, Jagadeesha Navuda, principal, Viveka pre-university College, Kota, T B Shetty, lawyer, Belapu Deviprasad Shetty, Ibrahim Saheb Hangarakatte, senior activitst, Thimma Poojary, Govinda Bijoor, Malathi Shetty, Shilpaharishchandra Shetty, Raghavendra Kanchan, member, Udupi zilla panchayat, Srilatha Suresh Shetty, Subraya Acharya, president, Rotary Club of Kota City were present.
Sathish Shetty, physical education teacher compered the programme. Anand C Kunder, working president of the foundation welcomed the gathering. Kota Sreenivasa Poojary, MLA, Kota gave the introductory speech. Gautham Hegde, member Yedthady gram panchayat, administered the oath. Harish Shetty, PDO delivered the vote of thanks.
