Mangaluru: St Sebastian Church Permannur marks 'Day of Religious'

Mangaluru, Oct 30: St Sebastian Church, at its centenary jubilee programme, ‘Adarsh Permannur’, on Sunday, October 29, celebrated the ‘Religious Day’ at the church ground.

The stage programme was presided over be Fr J B Saldanha, parish priest.

Fr Stany B Lobo, Fr Herald C D’Souza, Fr Peter Serrao, former parish priest, Richard Alvares, chief guest, Fr Joseph Martis, Fr Peter Noronha, Fr Denzil Lobo, Fr Valerian, Fr Edwin Mascarenhas, principal of the PU college, Sr Carmine Misquith, superior of Bethel Convent, Sr Emma Joseph, superior, Nirmala Convent, Sr Benny Barretto, superior, Aloysius Convent, all former and present assistant parish priests, Melwyn C D’Souza, vice president and Ronald Fernandes, president, Adarsh Permannur, and Demetrius D’Souza Centenary Jubilee Committee members were present on the dais.


    








































































The special day witnessed the honouring of former parish priests, assistants, heads of educational institutions, religious from Permannur Parish, religious from three convents of the parish, St Joseph Vaz deanery priests and religious, Ivan D’Souza, co-sponsor, and special guests.  

Chief guest Richard Alvares spoke about need of the religious in todays world. Melwin C D’Souza spoke about importance of the religious. Former parish priests thanked the organisers for their love towards them. President Dr J B Saldanha spoke and thanked all for accepting the invitation.    

The programme began with a procession of religious men and women, followed by prayer dance by St Sebastian English Medium School, and a welcome dance by Holy Angels School.

Ronald Fernandez welcomed the gathering. Dolphy D’Sa thanked and Joslin D’Souza compered the event. As part of the programme, a religious play ‘Pedru’ was staged. The programme was witnessed by many religious and parishioners. The whole event was organised by Adarsh Permannur Association.
