Mangaluru, Feb 14: Two persons, who have been accused of waylaying a pedestrian and robbing him of cash and cellphone are arrested.

The arrested accused have been identified as Muhammed Fahad (21), residing on Ansari Road, Bunder and Muhammed Afreed (19) from Kankanady.

Raju Sarkar from West Bengal, accompanied by his friend, Banesar, were walking through Bykampady industrial area at 8.30 pm on February 11 when the accused, who arrived in a black Honda Activa two-wheeler, intercepted them and snatched away two cellphones and Rs 130 in cash. The duo had fled towards Kudumboor after the robbery. The victims filed complaint in Panambur police station on the next day.

A special investigation team led by Panambur police inspector, Rafiq K M, was formed and the team succeeded in taking the accused into custody from near Kudremukh bus stand in the city on February 13. The two-wheeler used during the crime and two cellphones robbed by them were confiscated from them.

The operation was conducted by Panambur police inspector, Rafiq K M, police sub-inspector, Kumareshan and staff of anti rowdy squad under the leadership of city (north) assistant commissioner of police, Rajendra D S and guidance of deputy commissioners of police, Hanumantharaya and Uma Prashanth, as per the directions of city police commissioner, T R Suresh.
