Puttur, Feb 14: Eight students, who had ventured into the river to bathe at Urumbi, Kunthoorpadavu near Kadaba in the taluk faced danger to their lives as none of them knew how to swim. Local youngsters came to their rescue, and brought them out of the river. This incident happened on the evening of Tuesday February 13.

Eight students of tenth standard, all of who were from villages around Kadaba, had gone to River Kumaradhara at Urumbi. Whilst bathing and playing, they reached the middle of the river where the river is very deep. Despite their best efforts, the students got stuck there and were left with no way to come out of this critical situation.

A person from the other bank of the river who saw the problem the students were in, informed the locals. Local residents, Siddique, Satish Poojary, Ayub, Iqbal, Vittal Naik, Unais, and Iqbal came to the rescue of the students and brought them safely ashore.
