Mumbai, Oct 10: Whether he is playing an ambitious employee who lets seniors ‘use’ his apartment to make out so that he gets an out-of-turn promotion or just a plain happy-go-lucky boy-next-door — Sharman Joshi shuttles between his roles with equal ease.

Not many know that the actor, who is known for his comic timing, made his debut with the not-so-commercial film, Shabana Azmi-starrer Godmother. Since then it’s been a long and eventful journey for him.

Now, Sharman is kicked about his forthcoming release Hello where he plays a call centre employee. To get into the skin of the character, Sharman even visited quite a few call centres.

“I had to understand the mindset of the employees of a call centre. The best way to do that was to visit a call centre. I found out how they approached their work and what kind of training they underwent before actually getting onto the job,” he says.

In Hello, Sharman shares screen space with many other actors. In fact, most of his films — Life In A Metro, Golmaal, Rang De Basanti and Dhol — have been multi-starrers.
And now he’s shooting for 3 Idiots — based on Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone — which is again a multi-starrer starring Aamir Khan, Madhavan, Kareena Kapoor and himself. Sharman says he doesn’t have any problem being a part of multi-starrers.

“I pick up roles on the basis of what excites me. If that means multi-starrers, I don’t have a problem,” he says.

When asked doesn’t he ever feel that he would get overshadowed by any of his co-stars considering that he has worked with some of the best and the biggest in the industry like Aamir Khan and Sanjay Dutt, he says, “I don’t think about such situations.
I only concentrate on my role. Once you are part of a project, you only think of working together, in tandem and getting the best out of each other so that it can hold the audience for the entire length of the movie. I believe in doing the best that I can or the best that my part allows me to and then leave the rest to destiny.”

Sharman also gets excited about working with Aamir Khan and Madhavan once again after Rang De Basanti. “We just took off from where we left in Rang De Basanti. When we met for 3 Idiots, right from the first day we were on fire. By the time we finish the film, I am sure our camaraderie would have gone to a different level,” he says.

Finally, coming back to Hello, Sharman says, “We knew we all had something interesting in hand. We have given it our 100 per cent. Now all that we can do is think positive and just wish that the film does well.”
