Udupi, Jan 9: Sampark Kranti express train running between Kochuveli and Chandigarh since 2005, has been  allowed a temporary stop  here by the railway authorities from January 2 to June 2, stated a  press release issued by district Railway Commuters Association president R L Dias.

District Railway Commuters Association has been carrying out struggle  since the past two years, for prevailing on the  Indian Railway authorities to permit a stop for the  Sampark Kranti Express here.  A memorandum to this effect was also presented to the  railways minister R Velu at Madgaon, Goa on February 2006, he recollected.

The temporary stop  of Sampark Kranti train service will benefit the people across the district, who want to visit  north India including New Delhi.  Meanwhile, the Mumbai bound passengers travelling in this train will not benefit much as it has no stop  at Vasai Road Junction on Western Railway and the commuters will have to alight at Panvel and then take local trains to reach the Chatraprati Shivaji Terminus (CST), he explained.

District railway commuters association will take up the issue of granting stop for the train  at Vasai Road Junction with the  railway authorities besides urging  the people across the district to make  optimum use of the Sampark Kranti stop now provided to them here. Otherwise the temporary stop may be withdrawn as in the case of the Jan Shatabdi train in the past, stated R L Daias.
