Udupi: Dignitaries Demand for More Childrens' Literature at Children's Literary Conference

Udupi, Jan 12: The inaugural of Children's Literary Conference was held at the  Bhavani Mantapa of Shri Janardhana Mahakali Temple, Ambalapady here on Sunday January 11.

The event was organized by Dakshina Kannada District Sahitya Sangama.

Speaking on the occasion, Harikrishna Punaroor, former state president, Dakshina Kannada district unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, said that some of the television channel focus more on crime and other programmes that are uncivilized, that have the potential of diverting the attention of the childre and be responsible for the creation of new crime. Parents must encourage the children towards reading literature, to avoid such risk, he urged.



Litterateurs must be encouraged for improving quantity and quality  in children's literature. The culture will grow as the children get more attracted towards literature, he observed,  after releasing the children's story book 'Natya Mayuri', authored by Koverkolli Karunakar M V, on the occasion.

Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Dr N B Vijay Ballal, trustee, Mahakali Temple said that children's literature is the excellent contribution to the society and this form of literature requires special encouragement.

Srinivas Rao, secretary, delivered the key note address on the occasion.

H Shantaraj Aital, trustee, Udupi Balakedarara Vedike, presided over the function.

Ambatanaya Mudradi, district president, Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Udupi District, S V Bhat, president, Kasargod border unit, Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Bhauvanabhirama Udupa, editor, ‘Yugapurusha’ magazine, participated as chief guests.

Savitri Manohar, president, Dakshina Kannada District Sahitya Sangama welcomed the gathering.  Nempu Narasimha Bhat compered the programme and proposed vote of thanks.

Later, Indira Halambi, Savitri S Rao and Neelavara Surendra Adiga delivered the lecture on Children's Literature, under the presidentship of Dr Taltaje Vasanta Kumar, former head, Department of Kannada, Mumbai University.
