Mangalore: Gas Cylinder Blast - Woman Injured

Mangalore, Feb 4: Pramila Monteiro (34), a resident of Korekambala near Bajpe was admitted into a private hospital here with severe burn injuries to her face, hands and legs, after cooking gas started leaking from a cylinder in her home in the afternoon, which soon burst into flames.  Loss in the incident is estimated at about a lac of rupees.

Her hair was burnt, her clothes got stuck in the burn wounds and the front door of her home got smashed into pieces and thrown out to some distance away due to the impact of the blast.  Window frames and glasses too turned into splinters in the incident. 

Monteiro lives in the home along with her son, elder sister and two daughters.  Pramila, who reached home from Vamanjur when her children and elder sister were away, opened the door and ignited the flame after smelling gas leakage, instantly setting off the blast.

The police have registered a case.

    Its really sorry news. One point of caution to be noted whenever you smell cooking gas . First, open all doors and windows and never switch on any electric light or fan that could ignite.
