Mangalore, Feb 7: Following the harassment of the daughter of Manjeshwar MLA Kunhambu, by suspected radical Hindu outfits, the left organizations including the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Students’ Federation of India (SFI),  and Janavadi Mahila  Sangatane (JMS), will hold a statewide protest on Saturday February 7.

“There are plans to hold a statewide protest”, said Muneer Katipalla, district president, DYFI, adding that in Bangalore there will be a protest either in front of  chief minister’s house or at Vidhana Soudha.

“The students of St Aloysius College have also been asked to protest and stage a dharna to urge immediate arrest of the miscreants responsible for the incident”, said Jeevan Kuttar. SFI leader

“Women will also protest state-wide under the banner of JMS”, said Prameela, district committee leader, JMS.

“The CPI (M) has taken this issue as a major one, and we are in discussions with other leaders in the party to hold a nation-wide protest as the  state government has no regret over the issues created by so-called Hindu organizations and  harassment of girls and  women”, said Sunil Kumar Bajal, party leader.

DYFI members staged a protest near the KSRTC at 11 pm on Friday February 6 demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. The protesters alleged that the state government and its ministers are supporting the Sri Rama Sene and the Bajarang Dal, on the Hindutva agenda. Muneer Katipalla, addressing the protestors said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had planned to implement its hidden agenda through these outfits.

The MLA’s daughter Shruthi, was forced out of the bus in which she was travelling to her hostel in the city. The miscreants cautioned her against her friendship with Shabeeb, said to be her friend’s brother. The boy was with her in the bus. MLA Kunhambu has allegedly said that the bus conductor was also involved in this case, as he had passed on the information to the miscreants.

The MLA said that the bus ‘Vaishak’ was stopped by police in Kumbla, and the conductor was taken into custody.

“Let them  take  any  kind  of  action”, said Kunhambu expressing sadness over his decision to send his daughter to the city for her education. He also said that when he was a student in the city, no such incidents happened. Following the incident, he rushed to his the house of his friend in Bejai, who is the guardian to his daughter.

I am happy atleast now some serious protests are under way. Our motto should be to  throw out the BJP government from power. Or else there cannot be peace in our state.
