Udupi, Feb 7: The divers assigned by forest department managed to rescue a giant sea tortoise that was released into Madhwa Sarowar a few days ago here by Sri Laxmivarateerta Swamiji of Shiroor Math, on Saturday February 7 afternoon, .

The local fishermen fishing in Arabian Sea recently came across a giant tortoise in their net, which they handed over to the Swamiji, who in turn observed its movement in temple pond for two days and finally let it into Madhwa Sarovar here.

The forest department citing the vulnerability of endangered species of giant sea tortoise rearing in captivity, tried to rescue it from the lake since Friday February 6 morning. But they were able to catch the turtle only on Saturday.

The rescued tortoise was finally released into Arabian Sea, at Tottam sea shore, near here later, by the forest department personnel.
