Mangalore, Feb 9: JD (S) state president and former chief minister of the state H D Kumarswamy came down heavily on the state BJP government, saying that the administrative machinery here has come to a standstill and the BJP, by resorting to politics of disturbing peace instead of concentrating on development, has given rise to a shameful situation.  He was speaking at a press conference held here on Sunday February 8.

“I would have congratulated the BJP which harped on subjects like Hindutva and cow conservation for political ends, before ascending to power. However, the party instead, has been indirectly supporting uncivilized activities in the name of protecting culture and pushing the state to a state of constant turmoil," he alleged.

"After trying its best to sow the seeds of hatred between the Hindus and the Muslims, churches were attacked. Later, incidents like assault on students who were on excursion, assault on girls in a pub, assault on a boy for speaking to Hindu girl etc. have occurred in the coast. The state government has allowed the Sangh Parivar outfits to take the law into their hands. The Sangh Parivar is running the government, not the BJP," he commented, calling the people of the district to consider these developments with all the seriousness they deserve.

It is learnt that the BJP has planned to hold a dharna at Sakleshpur, demanding development of the Shiradi Ghat road, under the leadership of heads of some Maths. Both the Congress and the BJP have a number of influential leaders and members of parliament, but none of them could solve this problem. The BJP is now trying to stage a drama by utilizing the services of the Swamijis of some Maths for hoodwinking the people," he decried.

Asserting the decision of his party to field candidates for all the 28 Loksabha seats in the state, he informed that the first list of candidates will be released on February 16. He added that the party does not propose to enter into electoral understanding with any other party for the Loksabha election.

MLC M C Nanaiah, state JD (S) vice-president Amarnat Shetty, J S Noronha, district unit president Balraj Rai, Udupi district president Deviprasad Shetty, DK zilla panchayat president K Sucharita Shetty, ex-minister Gangadhar Gowda and several other leaders were present.
