Udupi, Feb 10: An excursionist to Jomluteertha waterfalls near Santekatte in Hebri, who had come to this   famous tourist spot to have fun, died after he slipped while taking a dip in the rivulet, on Sunday February 8.

The deceased has been identified as Rama (30), an autorickshaw driver from Manipal. He had gone to Jomluteertha along with some of his friends.  His body was recovered on Monday. A case has been registered at Hebri police station.

Rama was unmarried and was to marry soon. On Sunday, efforts put in by the locals and the fire brigade personnel to fish out the body did not succeed. The whirlpool beneath the waterfall has earned reputation for claiming lives regularly, with 11 people losing their lives here in the past five years. A warning sign along with names of people who died here has been put up at the spot. Still, visitors continue to neglect it.
