Mangalore: CWFI Takes out Protest Rally on ‘Demands Day’

Mangalore, Mar 2:
The Construction Workers’ Federation of India (CWFI),took out a protest rally urging the state government to fulfill several demands, as part of All India Demands Day, in the city on Monday March 2.

Addressing demonstrators in front of the assistant workers commissioner’s office, district secretary of CPI (M) B Madhava said that the global slowdown had also hit India. He added that the construction workers had also been experiencing the heat of the economic slump through retrenchment layoff and deductions in remuneration.
 
He urged the government to reduce the price for construction commodities so as to save the jobs and incomes of poor construction workers. Madhava demanded a minimum monthly salary of Rs 6,000 for the unorganized workers. He also said that the pension sum should be enhanced by Rs 1,500, instead of the existing Rs 300.
 
B M Bhat, president, CWFI, also spoke on the occasion. Secretary Vasanth Achari was also present.
