Mumbai, Aug 3: IMD has issued red alert in the city and said there are chances of heavy to very heavy and even extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places, especially in Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra till August 5 due to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. The weather department also sent notice to civic and state agencies and alerted them to be prepared to anticipate 'action'.

Heavy rainfall is also expected in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts of Maharashtra.

IMD-West's chief, K S Hosalikar said, “Mumbai is likely to get intense heavy rainfall on Saturday night and Sunday due to the development of a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. Thus we have issued warning, including for the west coast.”

Heavy rain overnight has led to traffic in areas of Malad, Andheri and Dahisar subway.

As per reports, the city has already received 91.39% of its required monsoon rainfall. In two days it has received 2,117.8mm, just short of the seasonal average of 2,317.1mm.
