Udupi: Gandhi pledge march commemorating 150th Gandhi Jayanti year organised

Udupi, Oct 24: BJP here, conducted 'Gandhi-150', Gandhi pledge march on the occasion of the 150th year of Gandhi Jayanti, under the leadership of Shobha Karandlaje, MP of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency and MLA of Udupi, Raghupathi Bhat at Udupi on October 24.

Under the guidance of the central government, on the occasion of the 150th year of Gandhi Jayanti, a nationwide Gandhi pledge march took place under the leadership of Shobha Karandlaje, MP from Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency and Raghupathi Bhat, MLA from Udupi Gandhi pledge march.

The statue of Mahatma Gandhi was garlanded at Ajjarkad Bhujanga Park. Kota Srinivas Poojary, minister of Fisheries, Ports and Inland Transport of Karnataka, Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, Naveen Shetty Kuthyar, Geetanjali Suvarna were present during the march. The main attraction of the march was Augustine Almeida from Goa Bapu's look alike dressed in Mahatma Gandhi's attire and participated in the march.



Kota Srinivas Poojary said that cleanliness must be given first priority and hence Shobha Karandlaje led BJP’s programme today will be successful and the students taking part in this Gandhi pledge march will implement it in their daily life. In the coming days we could witness a much clean city. Kota Srinivas Poojary also said that before October 30, the Gandhi pledge march will take place in all the constituencies in the state.

Shobha Karandlaje, member of Parliament from Udupi–Chikkamagaluru constituency said that this march or the celebration must not be preserved for only today's date but needs to be carried out throughout the year. "Mahatma Gandhi is a real role model to millions of people, but today the opposition is using Gandhi's name as a trumpcard
to win the elections. He was not only a freedom fighter, he also fought against social problems, segretation and also abolished evil practices in society. His salt satyagraha, Dandi March is always remembered.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is inspired by Gandhi's work and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan begun by him is a good example. Even Gandhi focused on 'Make in India' and gave
importance to Khadi. Our honorable Prime Minister is following his path. Gandhi not only focussed on cleanliness, he also emphasized and followed the principles of
truth and non-violence in his life.

"Shobha Karandlaje as well as Raghupathi Bhat said that plastic must be completely eliminated in the city and people of Udupi must contribute towards making Udupi a plastic free and clean city."

The Gandhi pledge march commenced from Ajjarkad, proceeded to Bhujanga Park and went into the streets of Udupi city. It concluded at Rajangana in Udupi. Students and staff from various schools and colleges participated in the march.
