‘Kyarr’ cyclone causes widespread damage in Kasargod

Kasargod, Oct 26: ‘Kyarr’ cyclone that originated in the Arabian Sea has caused widespread destruction in the district.

Sea erosion has increased. Several trees are uprooted. Many of the uprooted trees have fallen on houses and buildings. The podium of Kasargod sub district arts festival crashed down this afternoon. A major catastrophe was averted by a whisker as students ran from there. Two people sustained minor injuries. The incident has happened when arts festival was in progress in Kolathoor school.

Holiday was declared for schools and colleges in view of the rainstorm. The district administration has given permission to hold the arts festival as per schedule. Meanwhile the incident occurred in Kolathoor.



A huge tree was uprooted across the road at Karandakkad, Kasargod-Mangaluru national highway throwing traffic into disarray for several hours. An autorickshaw was crushed under the tree. Fire brigade personnel who came from Kasargod removed the tree.

Huge loss is caused by a tree that fell on Ravaneshwar school building. There was no loss of life as it was a holiday for the school. The tree fell during a downpour in the afternoon. School classroom and staff rooms are damaged. Schools and colleges had holidays due to anticipation of torrential rainfall.

Sea erosion on the seaside has increased. Several houses at Uppala and Kasargod seaside are facing danger.

The control room was opened in the office of the deputy commissioner in view of the rain. Officials have been asked to take all the possible precautionary measures.
