Beltangady, Oct 27: Minister for law and minor irrigation J C Madhuswamy said that Rs 30 crore is sanctioned for reconstruction of vented dams of Beltangady taluk that are destroyed in the recent deluge and work will start, in consultation with the department engineers, once the rainy season is over.

Madhswamy spoke to the scribes on Saturday, October 26, after conducting inspection of Aranepade, Parlani areas of Kukkavu and Charmady villages.

The minister further said, "We have received an appeal for the local MLA of constructing a retainer wall to prevent the flood waters from gushing to the farm lands at some areas of river basin. We will send Srinivas of IISc for a study on this subject. Based on his report, we will do the needful. I have asked to prepare planning for the repair of rivulet, which used to provide irrigantion to around 100 acre of land in the interior and which was washed away during the deluge."

Responding to the question of scribes of removing the silt from the rivers, Madhuswamy said, "The problem arises as to what needs to be done with the silt that is excavated from the rivers. If the vented dams, bridges, roads or any other infrastructure is damaged, they will be reconstructed on priority once the rainy season gets over. If there is a fear of cutting off of the connection, then priority will be given to such areas. In addition, instructions are given for electricity connection also."

The minister appreciated the efforts of the local MLA for the woks taken for providing relief for flood affected areas of the taluk. The victims of flood brought their woes to the notice of the minister.
