Udupi: Hands-on Medico Legal workshop held by KMC Manipal

Udupi, Oct 28: The department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology KMC Manipal, has hosted a one day hands-on Medico Legal Workshop SPEAR 2019 bringing together the police, judiciary and medical officers of Udupi district. The programme was inaugurated by G Jagadeesha, district commissioner of Udupi, who spoke a few words insisting that many more workshops must be held for the officers and that they must take advantage of these opportunities and help serve the legal justice system better.

The guests of honour were C M Joshi, district and sessions judge, Nisha James, superintendent of police, Dr H Ashok, district health officer and Dr Poornima Baliga B, pro vice chancellor of MAHE. Joshi spoke about the importance of maintaining `chain of custody’ when it comes to court proceedings. Nisha James addressed the gathering about the relevance of physical evidences in the investigation of crime and how this workshop will prove useful. Dr Ashok spoke about how he will always be in support for such programmes and assures to help conduct more similar workshops in the future. Dr Poornima Baliga spoke about the various initiatives taken up by the institute of MAHE In-order to spread more social awareness and guarantees more programmes with the help of the government.

The welcome address for the inauguration ceremony was given by Dr Sharath Kumar K Rao, dean of KMC Manipal. Dr Vinod C Nayak, head of the department of Forensic Medicine spoke a few words giving an overview of programme and the vote of thanks was given by Dr Shankar M Bakkannavar, Associate professor of department of Forensic Medicine. Dr Anitha S, associate professor of department of Forensic Medicine was the master of the ceremony. The inaugural function was followed by several important sessions conducted by the faculty of the department. A hands-on workshop on basic life support workshop marked the conclusion of SPEAR 2019.
