Udupi: DC wants ART treatment, sting operation on sex determination tests

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Oct 28: Deputy commissioner of the district, Jagadeesh, has instructed the officials to identify those HIV affected persons who are deprived of antiretroviral therapy (ART) to get access to this facility. He also suggested to the officials to undertake sting operations to find out those who are still continuing to undertake sex determination tests during pregnancy.

He was speaking after presiding over a meeting held here recently.

He guessed that there is a possibility of the sex determination tests of foetuses being conducted even now. He wanted the health officials to conduct surprise visits and undertake detailed scrutiny. He said that the life span of HIV-affected patients can be extended by providing ART to them. Therefore he said that all such persons should be given ART therapy without fail.
