Karkala, Oct 30: In a tragic incident which happened near the multi-village drinking water project located at Kallillu Chara near Hebri on Tuesday, October 29, a youth who went to River Sita to take bath drowned.

The man who lost his life in this way was Santosh (20), resident of Gandhinagar in Chara village. He was employed in a private firm at Hebri

Santosh was accompanied by some relatives when he visited the river to take bath on Tuesday. At around 3 pm, he suddenly drowned in the river after one of his legs slipped, it is said.

The police from Hebri, with the help of fire department divers and locals, conducted an extensive search for his body till late in the night but they failed in their task. Hebri station house officer, Jaya, said that the search operation will resume on Wednesday.

Reportedly, Santosh was the only son for his parents, the other two of their children being girls. He was the pillar of support for the family. This incident happened close on the heels of an incident in which a youth named Sachin had drowned at Jomluteertha near here two days back.
