Mangalore, Oct 4: Church of South India (CSI) celebrated harvest festival as an expression of gratitude to God for the best harvest and also to mark the joy of good yield at Shanti Cathedral, Balmatta in the city on Sunday October 4.

The harvest festival is observed with offering of first harvest to God underlying the belief that the yield is in fact grace of god. The community members celebrate their joy after harvesting the crops and offer the first yield as his share and also to be blessed by the God.

The community members brought to the church, the new corn, tender coconuts, sugarcane and vegetables and offered to god along with the prayer led by priests.

A special prayer was held on the occasion. CSI Bishop Dr J S Sadananda and other priests performed the prayer rituals.

The crops and the vegetables were auctioned later on the church premises. Sports, g and cultural programmes were organized on the premises which saw participation of all age groups from children to senior citizens.

Even though this tradition may sound like outdated, it speaks volumes about God's faithfulness to provide food for His creation. God will be very happy to see that we give Him due glory for His mercy upon us every day. Great pictures, and such news brings inspiration to our souls.
