Mangalore, Oct 6 (DHNS):
Dakshina Kannada district administration has called upon the district to come forward and contribute towards relief fund for the cause of flood affected areas.

Addressing a discussion with various organisations on Monday District-in-Charge Secretary Vidyashankar said that general public, organisations and corporate companies of DK district must contribute in cash and kind for the cause of the victims.

He said that the cash must reach the affected areas by October 15 while the commodities must reach by October 7. Assuring that the funds donated by people will not be misused, he said that people willing to send help in the form of cash may send in their cheques or DDs in the name of CM’s Relief Fund.

Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj said that donation centre has been opened at MG Road to collect fund and commodities to be sent to the affected areas while three more will start functioning at Mangalore City Corporation, Red Cross Centre and Taluk office from Tuesday onwards. One such centres will be opened in all taluk offices.

DC said that on his interaction with the DCs and CEOs of the affected areas, he was informed that there is no dearth of funds or food stuff.

The immediate requirement of the victims are clothes and utensils, which needs to be sent in large quantity.

The aid will be sent to Bagalkote, Raichur and Bellary on priority basis.
During the discussion, Red Cross Official M G Mohan said that they have had some bitter experiences in the past when commodities collected here did not reach the victims but were either dumped or misused. Endorsing his views Dakshina Kannada district Kannada Sahithya Parishat President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura said that since misappropriations had taken place in the past, attention must be paid towards maintaining the accountability.

Vidyashankar said that this time the possibility of misappropriation is bleak as the entire activity will take place under the supervision of the DCs and SPs of districts concerned. The consignments will leave from DK district and on being delivered to the said destination the district administration there will give a letter of confirmation. Further, volunteers will be sent along with each consignment of commodities to ensure that the commodities reach the victims without fail.

Padayathra

It was resolved to organise a padayathra in the district to raise funds, commodities and to create awareness among the people about the situation prevailing in the affected areas.

It was said that NCC, NSS, Rotary, Lions and various other voluntary organisations can be called in to participate in the Padayatra.

Superintendent of Police Dr Subramanyeshwar Rao, Additional Deputy Commissioner Prabhakar Sharma, Corporate heads and officials of various departments were present.

If one can read in between lines from Dr Kiran Acharya's comment, it is quite clear that he wants Daijiworld to take up this cause just it has done earlier in several other cases, especially those that of afflicted, suffering from diseases etc.

Daiji has established its credibility by disbursing funds directly to the beneficiary. suggession Dr Acharya. You seems to have lost faith in government and have doubts whether these funds collected by various administration will reach the actual beneficiaries.

Actually you have the reason for this too. None of the earlier governments have so far done a credible job in disbursing any funds properly to the actual victims. Forget about relief fund, pensions, scholarships etc do not reach the actual beneficiaries and even if they reach, half of the actual amount is swindled.

So your suggestion to Daiji to take up the cause is praisworthy. Daiji readers have always been generous not only in comments but also in helping the needy (Most of them don't limit themselves to contributing only a day's pay. They do more than that). Don't be heratbroken by these comments here. All of them are very true and they are pointing not at one politician or political party but all politicians and all political parties.

Rather than donating a day's salary, if you can use your political connections and ensure that this money reaches exactly where it should be, then it would be really great on your part and would help millions. I guess you can do it.

The question of collecting funds is not issue, but who is collecting, and to whom they are responsible, and how it will be disposed, specially when it is a fascist party, the person collecting the fund may be honest but the people behind the collection is important as this will determine the way it is to be disposed, or may be they want fund a group that will cause disturbance in Mangalore, instead of flood relief. The perverted ways of saffron party is well known during Gujarat earthquake relief as distribution was to upper caste of Hindus.

Gambhir and Rajesh, Nice to see you both pat each other's back. There is something to observe here our contributions are no more going into one basket - they are directed into orange, white and green baskets each colour corresponds to a certain religion. No wonder our forefathers were so foresighted in giving us a National Flag combined of all these colours. Sad that even in tragedies we prefer representing divided - all sacrifices to unite us by our ancestors have gone waste.

I do not see any merit in opposing the colour of the box. Naturally, when BJP is collecting funds , they will use their colour.Even if they use any other colour, some people still may argue that Nalini Kumar is a BJP man, he should not come in the front.

No end to such illogical arguments. If Congress or any other party collect funds, they will use their own colours. Why we have to find fault with the colour of the box, let us move with the purpose of the box. I feel all parties should get into collecting funds for this tragedy. It is a different issue how much money will actually reach the ultimate goal - it is our fate.

Mr.Vincy, best note of the topic. Reddy brothers sucked the blood of these people through illegal mining and became wealthy. They are the ones who created dust in the clouds through their arrogant behaviour. Now nature is fighting back these corrupt people. Now these people have guts to ask us for charity. I think all the corrupt politicians and Government officials should do the Charity so that they Pay For Their Sins.

Who knows what part of this charity will go in real estate purchases by corrupt people. CM was doing His yoga while people were dying and talks about helping hand now. What a fakers. Just watch how much of money will be missused while rebuilding infrastructures and homes for homeless. This is a God given opportunity for sucking the public money

Let mining lobby pay as they are the one who is distroying the nature. If those guys are sitting as ministers, let them first empty themselves of their ill-gotten wealth before asking public. That will be beneficial to both mother nature and the poor people sufferring. From experience I find only red cross is the most impartial and competent authority who helps people rest are there just to make a few quick bucks.

My dear people, Indians by nature are generous, but few people take advantage of it. Since you'll are not far from the place where calamity has taken place pls. make groups, collect funds and other important material and give to the needy. May be you will not achieve 100% but you can make a start and I am confident, this trend will help in future. ALSO, GOD WILL BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES.

Why one should worry so much about Saffron colour? It has been quite long since we the people of undivided Dakshina Kannada have accepted this colour as our trademark and brand. Even most of the social functions held here are usually bathed in this colour whether with banners, headbands, pamplets etc.

Even the famous Kambala buffalos have saffron neck band most of the times. There is no point blaming someone now, when we collectively failed to prevent this desease right at the beginning. Many of us either wishfully supported while many of us turned a deaf ear and blind eye for this development. Now we have more weeds in our field than the paddy. No one is willing to destroy this weed consciously.

When our entire administrative system itself has changed into Saffron, what is the point discussing about one or two stray incidents such as this? How can you expect Nalin Kumar to go with white cloth? White cloth for long has been hijacked by Congress. Nalin owes a lot to this saffron colour and if he goes with white coloured cloth, he will called a traitor in party levels.

This kind of stunt during natural calamities is neither new to us. Only the difference is that now-a-days owing to the scanning eyes of media, these come to the fore easily. Whatever the official promise, even half this money won't reach the actual. We can trust our MP and officials. But can't be said of their counterparts in these affected areas. Let's not doubt Nalin alone but all.

Dear Ashley, what Roche stated is correct. Collected funds should be utilised in right way. Also collection box should be in white colour which is messaging peace but here utilised colour clearly showing that only particular party people helping. This is the public issue and i would like to request the ministers that stop corruption and divert your corruption money into relief fund. This is the better way to bring up our state.

Dr Kiran Acharya, You ought support this color saying its being recycled. Why they didnt get white cloth, which signifies peace as recycling material. For you saffron may be a fond color, but for majority of  Indians this is a party color, a color that devides people on communual lines and a color that spreads hatred and violence. Being an educated person like you, I dont think you have to be narrow minded.
