Udupi: Adani Foundation distributes scholarships to 832 students worth total Rs 20 lac

Udupi, Feb 29: UPCL, owned by Adani Group, in association with its CSR wing Adani Foundation, on Friday distributed scholarships worth Rs 20 lac to meritorious students residing in the plant vicinity.

The scholarships were distributed to 832 students during a stage programme organized at the premises of St Francis Xavier School ground in Mudarangadi. The programme kickstarted by lighting a lamp by Fr Francis Lewis, parish priest of St Francis Xavier Church, Mudarangadi, Fr Walter D’Mello, judicial vicar for Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, Kishore Alva, president and executive director of Adani UPCL, Vasanti Madhwaraj, Yellur GP president, Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, Belapu GP president, Jeetendra Futrado, Palimar GP president, Aruna Kumari, Tenka GP president, Sharmila Salian, Bada GP president, Vishalakshi Putran, Hejamadi GP president, Sahana, vice-president of Majoor GP, Kushal Moolya, vice-president of Inna GP and Satish Shetty, member of Yellur GP.

Inaugurating the programme, Fr Walter D’Mello informed that Adani Group’s CSR contribution in the field of education, especially in the rural areas, is highly appreciable. He informed that with today’s scholarship, the company is facilitating students to take-up higher education. Fr D’Mello advised all the students to
properly utilize the scholarship amount and aim for better prospects in life and contribute to the development of society. He expressed happiness on the company’s concern for the village development works and also on the green environment. Fr D’Mello applauded the efforts of Kishore Alva in making the CSR benefits available to the villagers and vision on the overall development of the villages.

Kishore Alva spoke on the occasion and informed that UPCL in association with Adani Foundation is executing CSR works in the field of education, health, rural infrastructure development, sports and cultural activities. Today, under educational initiatives, UPCL is distributing scholarships to 832 meritorious students worth total Rs 20 lac. "The students who have secured 80% and above in their academics during the academic year 2018-19 in SSLC, ITI, PUC, Diploma, Graduation, Post-Graduation, Engineering and Medical courses, identified through respective gram panchayats, have been honoured with the scholarships."

Alva further informed that honouring the meritorious students with scholarship motivates them to pursue higher studies and will impart thinking of competition among other students. "Eradication of illiteracy and promoting education to the rural sections of society is also one among the prime focus of Adani Foundation in the field of education.

"Adani Foundation, under its focus area of education, is organizing ‘Udaan’ programme, inviting nearly 5,000 students every year to the UPCL plant, facilitating the students to gain knowledge in their academics and the programme also aims at inspiring the students to have a vision in their life."

Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, speaking on the occasion and informed that UPCL, after coming under the umbrella of the Adani Group, has given special attention for the development of basic infrastructure facilities in the surrounding villages and has responded to the demands of the gram panchayats and villages, thereby gaining the confidence of the local populace. He expressed happiness on Adani’s efforts in identifying the talents of students residing in the plant vicinity and rewarding them with scholarships. He advised the students to make use of the rewarded scholarships and to pursue higher education and aim at the development of society.

Ravi R Jere, senior manager of Adani UPCL welcomed the guests, Chandrahasa Prabhu, teacher of St Francis Xavier School compered the programme and delivered the vote of thanks.
