Puttur, Dec 3: The four-day children’s drama festival, ‘Atta-Mutta’ being held at the Town Hall here by the town-based Nirataniranga, Bahuvachanam, in association with Karnataka Nataka Academy, went under way here on Wednesday December 2.

Prof R Vedavyas, principal of Vivekananda College here, inaugurated the festival being held from December 2 to 5, by releasing the souvenir brought out on the occasion. Speaking later, he said that a drama is like a feast for the eyes and treasure of knowledge for the audience. In addition, the dramas are performed and watched by people, setting aside their other affiliations, and therefore, they are secular in nature. Drama is both a science and an art. The drama festival being organized here has been making immense contributions to the theatre in a unique way. Everyone, in spite of which of the arts he is attracted to, is interested in watching dramas, as all kinds of art forms get featured together in dramas, he said.

Municipal president, Rajesh Bannur, speaking after presiding over the inaugural, said that he has been greatly influenced by the drama, ‘Beppu Takkadi Bole Shankara’, staged by Kinnara Mela Tumari during the last year’s children’s drama festival. “I have been a regular participant of ‘Atta Mutta’, an annual drama festival brought by Nirataniranta. I was greatly touched by the sincerity, honesty and truthfulness depicted in the said drama. Being the president of the local body, I have been trying best to imbibe these qualities in the day-to-day administration,” he said.

K G Krishnamjurty, who was the chief guest, also addressed the gathering. Karnataka Nataka Academy member, H M Kumaraswamy, wanted the brains that are nurturing the dream of enlivening the theatre activities through reforms, to become more creative. Theatre personality, Sam Kutty Pattankari, I K Bolwar of Nirataniranta, and souvenir editor, Mounesh Vishwakarma were at the dais.

Dr Shreesha Kumar M K of Bahuvachanam welcomed and delivered introductory address. Journalist, Samshuddin Sampya, proposed vote of thanks. Manjula Subrahmanya presented the programme.
