Bantwal, Apr 6: A group which took part in lighting the lamp programme at 9 pm on Sunday, April 5, as per the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to show solidarity in the fight against coronavirus, pelted stones at the houses of minority community. This incident took place at Pratapanagar Perlapu of Kadeshivalaya of the taluk.

According to locals, a group of men had lighted lamps at 9 pm of Sunday and celebrated the call given by PM Modi. However, once the scheduled programme was over, it got into the colony where there are houses belonging to minority community and threw firecracker. Later at around 11 pm stones were also pelted on the houses according to the accusation of the people living in the said colony.

The residents of the affected locality informed the same to the police. Bantwal rural police responded to the distress call and inspected in the nearby areas. A case in this regard is registered at Bantwal rural police station.

    This kind of mentality should be strongly condemned and strict action should be taken by the authorities. These are not the kind of behaviour one should encourage or let go of easily in these times of great distress. When the whole nation is in lockdown and efforts are underway to erase the presence of the virus from our country, there are forces which are trying to disturb the communal harmony.
    The police should not take this matter lightly. The perpetrators should be booked and strong message sent out that no one is above law.
