Shivamogga, Apr 9: In a tragic incident reported from Benavalli village near Ripponpet in the district, a woman smothered her 14-month-old child and then hanged herself. The incident happened on Wednesday, April 8 morning.
The victims of this incident were Ashika (23), and her son, Atharv. The family of the victims and villagers were in utter disbelief and shock at this sudden turn of events.
Reportedly, the doctors had diagnosed Atharv with kidney-related complications and suggested surgery. The family said in a complaint filed with the Ripponpet police that Ashika was going through a lot of mental agonies on whether her child will survive the surgery and that she ended her and the child's life because of the overwhelming emotions about the child.
Ashika from Gavatur had married Vinay, a relative, two and a half years back.
