Bengaluru: Attacking police for blocking namaz - Women accused get bail

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 4: In connection with an incident in which stones were pelted at the police personnel who went to Aralikatti Colony on Mantoor Road at Hubballi to stop people from offering namaz at the mosque there in violation of lockdown orders, the high court granted bail to six women. It, however, rejected bail applications of 17 other accused.

A single-judge bench of the state high court presided over by Justice Sreenivas Harish Kumar, which took up bail applications filed by Shabana M Ron and 22 other accused, refused to entertain bail pleas of the other 17 accused. The bench passed this order after taking up the applications and listening to arguments.

The bench noted that the government has issued certain guidelines in the interests of the people and against the spread of deadly coronavirus infection. "The applicants not only violated the guidelines but also threw stones at the police. This act cannot be justified. Therefore, the accused are not eligible for bail till the police investigation is completed," the bench observed. The judge observed that bail can be favourably considered in case of the first six women accused as they have small children to look after.

The bench granted conditional bail to the six women accused.
