Bengaluru, May 5: The migrant workers who left to their homes with a lot of expectations and travails, have been quarantined for 14 days upon reaching their villages.

During the last three days, about 50,000 migrant workers have travelled to their homes but now they will be prisoners in their own homes for 14 days. Those who travelled by KSRTC buses were subjected to health checks at their respective district headquarters and then their hands were sealed. They have been instructed to complete home quarantine strictly. The workers, who were expecting to get the freedom to roam around freely and get engaged in other activities, have to confine themselves within the four walls of their houses for two weeks now.

Several teams have been entrusted with the task of ensuring that these people remain within their homes and do not break quarantine rules. These teams will be visiting their houses at odd hours and check their presence. In addition, some neighbours have also been asked to keep an eye.

Related incidents: A migrant worker from Kalaburagi, Gafoor (43), died on Monday, May 4 at Majestic bus stand. He got crushed between two buses which were carrying workers who were eager to go home.

Five KSRTC buses which were to go to Sindhagi, Bagalkot and other north Karnataka towns with migrant workers, strayed from their routes and reached Karwar on Monday morning. The buses were to take Davanagere route to reach Hubballi and then move further to their destinations. But they were advised to move via Shivamogga as Davanagere has a high prevalence of coronavirus infection. The drivers who were new to this route reached Karwar by mistake before taking the correct road and reaching their destinations.
