Bantwal: Over thousand migrant workers walking to Jarkhand stay after persuasion

Bantwal, May 13: A group of more than a thousand migrants from Jarkhand including women and children who were determined to walk to Jarkhand from Mangaluru ignoring pleas by Bantwal taluk administration and district police force were persuaded finally to stay back.

More than 1200 workers who were determined to walk to their state on Tuesday night at 9 pm were assured train facilities and food after three days. But the workers did not relent.

The workers who did not listen to anybody consented to the request made by SP to stay at Bantara Bhavan near Brahmarakotlu toll gate. MLA Rajesh Naik contacted the officials and arranged their stay at Bantara Bhavan.

The workers were tired after walking for 20 kilometers. Police and youth at Farangipete distributed fruits to them. MLA Vedavyas Kamath provided meals to them.

The workers complained that they were made to go from police station to police station for passes.

Bantwal MLA, Rajesh Naik Ulipadiguthu and MLA, Rajesh Naik assured the workers that they will be sent respectfully. The MLAs also arranged meals for them.
