Udupi, May 13: Minister of fisheries, ports and inland water transport Kota Srinivas Poojary held a meeting of officials over dredging for mini port at Kodi Kanyana.

The meeting reviewed about the legal case filed by a local at Irodi at national green tribunal and appointment of lawyers on behalf of the government on the basis of details provided by litigation officer.

The case was filed over collection of sand near the bridge of Kodi village. The work will be disrupted due to the litigation as fishermen are unable to bring their mechanized boats. Therefore, the necessary work of clearing sand should be undertaken soon, he said to the officials.

Discussions at length were held on construction of port at Hejmady, repairs of Gangolli Jetty, extension of Malpe fisheries port, development of Hangarkatte port at the cost of Rs 130 crore and development of Koderi fisheries port.

The officials informed the minister that action will be taken about dredging at Kodi Kanyana with funds from the center and the state government.

Fisheries department chief secretary Captain Manivannan, environment and geology department chief secretary Vijay Kumar Gogi, fisheries department director Prabhulinga Kavalakatti, personal secretary Dr Udayakumar Shetty and other senior department officials were present.
