'Udupi district salons to open from May 18' - Savita Samaj

Udupi, May 14: Udupi district Savita Samaj president Bhaskar Bhandary, said that all hair salons in the district will become operational with effect from May 18.

Addressing a press meet on Thursday May 14, Bhandary said that the barbers in the district are grateful to the people for bearing with them during the 53 days of lockdown, and also Nadoja Dr G Shankar and G Shankar Family Trust for providing kits containing provisions to the barbers in distress. He also thanked the state government for announcing financial package of Rs 5,000 for all members of the barber community.

Bhandary said that during the period a delegation of Savita Samaj met the deputy commissioner of the district on May 13 and discussed the current conditions, the deputy commissioner agreed to issue conditional permission to open all salons in the district on May 18.

Conditions: It would be better if the customers fix appointment in advance over phone. Air-conditioners cannot be switched on. Distance of minimum two feet should be maintained between customers and barbers. Clothes in the salon should be clean and hygienic. The barbers should wear masks and hand gloves when serving the customers. After serving the customers, they should wash hands with soap. When the customer visits, they should be asked to clean their hands with sanitizers. In case of two barbers working in the same salon, difference of minimum one metre should be maintained between two chairs. Clothes used for one customer cannot be used for another one. They can be used again only after having been washed. Each barber has to download Arogya Setu app in their mobile phones.

The press conference was attended by Savita Samaj general secretary Sadashiva Bangera Kurkalu, treasurer Shekhar Salian Adi Udupi, honorary president Govind Bhandary, Udupi taluk Savita Samaj president Raju C Bhandary Kinnimulky, secretary Shankar Salian Katapady, in addition to president Bhaskar Bhandary Guddeangady.

As is the age old practice, salons will remain closed without exception on all Tuesdays.
