Bengaluru, May 14: In an incident which happened near Kalasipalya here on Wednesday, May 13, street vendors rained balls of dung on the husband of a Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) corporator and his son. The victims had arrived there along with officials to evict shops that had mushroomed on the footpath.

Dhanaraj, husband of the area corporator Pratibha, and his son came under dung attack. Dhanaraj thereafter held a protest against this treatment he got at Kalasipalya. The street vendors raised slogans against Dhanaraj and prepared to hold a counter-protest. As such, the situation turned tense. Pratibha too joined the protest.

After coming to know that footpaths in Kalasipalya area were covered by shops that have cropped up there, Dhanaraj had come there along with some BBMP officials to force the vendors to leave. The vendors who knew in advance about the operation had come armed with packets of dung.

Dhanaraj has filed a complaint in Kalasipalya police station against the street vendors for throwing dung at him. In response, the vendors accused Dhanaraj of exploiting them by levying a high rate of interest on finances extended to them.
