She happens to be Shobha Channappanavar, a lab technician in the taluk hospital at Savanur.

The health officer has asked Shobha to visit Hiremugadoor village and collect throat swab of a deceased person suspected to be having coronavirus infection. When Shobha went there, she saw that the villagers had already dug a pit in the graveyard and placed the body inside the pit.

The family of the deceased and the villagers objected to her presence, claiming that women's presence is not permitted near the grave. Shobha somehow succeeded in convincing them. She climbed down the pit and collected the throat swab sample.

In recognition of this bold act, state women and child welfare minister Shashikala Jolle, called Shobha over the phone and appreciated her for showing mettle in discharging duties. She also pomised to extend some help to her.
