Bengaluru: Cops crack couple's murder mystery within 24 hours

Bengaluru, May 14: The city (south) police have succeeded in solving a case of barbaric murder of a couple in the city within a day.

Rakesh D alias Rocks (25), resident of second cross, second main, Avalahalli, has been arrested for the crime. He has been accused of escaping after murdering Govindayya (65) and his wife, Shanthamma (58).

Naveen B G son of the deceased couple, had married a girl named Pavitra in 2008. As there was lack of compatibility between the couple, Pavitra had left home for sometime, and had returned home after the family court counselling. Rakesh brother of Pavitra, was nursing a grudge against the family of Naveen on this issue, often fought on this matter.

Rakesh had called Naveen at around 7.15 pm on May 10 over phone to ask him to drop Pavitra home. During this conversation, a fight erupted between the two. Rakesh then called Naveen and his father to threaten them with dire consequences the same day. Naveen, who was taken aback by Rakesh's aggression, had left home at around 7.30 pm. Between 7.30 and 8.45 pm that day, Rakesh arrived at Naveen's house and murdered the couple with a knife before fleeing, the police said.
