Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 15: Subrahmanya and surrounding places received copious rainfall coupled with thunder and lightning for about 90 minutes on Thursday, May 14 afternoon. Because of road works in progress at Subrahmanya, the rainwater got accumulated on the road and blocked vehicular movement on the road.

A tree standing at Valagada Keri at Biladwara, Subrahmanya, got uprooted on the house belonging to Anand. While the house was destroyed completely, the family members escaped unhurt. The roofs of many houses were blown away and Sheshanag Ashraya, temple's lodging facility for devotees at Subrahmanya, was covered in water.

Different parts of Udupi district got drizzle with thunder and lightning on Thursday evening.

The meteorological department has predicted rainfall at different places for five days commencing from May 15. It has sounded a yellow alert in Karnataka coast for three days, as a consequence of breeze over the surface of Bay of Bengal. As there is an expectation of coastal Karnataka getting good rainfall, the meteorological department has sounded yellow alert.

The department said that for the next three days, rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm may occur and that along with thunder and lightning, wind velocity also will be high. In the southwest of Bay of Bengal, because of the low-pressure area, there are chances of the monsoon getting advanced by nearly a week, it is said.
