Beltangady, May 16: Over 15 carcasses of monkeys were found by the roadside near Kallarbi within Bandaru gram panchayat limits on Friday May 15.

The locals had found that about 50 monkey carcasses were scattered at the spot the previous night. They tried to get information about this strange phenomenon but could not. They then provided information to officials on Friday. But when the officials came, only 15 carcasses were found there on Friday morning.

The skulls of the monkeys bore serious injury marks and the forest officials and veterinary officials believe that this to be a case of poisoning. The people also find the development in which the number of carcasses went down from 50 the previous night to 15 the next morning as confounding.

Local people's representatives and forest officials visited the spot and took up investigation.
