Udupi, May 16: “India is facing shortage of 20 lac unit blood every year. Therefore, blood donors should come forward to voluntarily donate blood,” said Kundapur sub division forest conservator Ashish Reddy.

He addressed a gathering on Saturday after inaugurating the blood donation camp held jointly by association of Karnataka forest protectors and vigilantes’, Kundapur regional and Kuduremukh wildlife division and blood bank center of the government hospital, Udupi in the library building. He also donated blood.

“Scarcity of blood is more during the current lockdown. Therefore, more people should donate blood,” said DFO Ashish Reddy. “We can save a life by donating blood. Our immunity becomes more and we get the satisfaction of serving society. I have O negative blood which is rare. I had donated blood to a patient and donate blood on my own now,” he said.

Manjunath Naik, president of Karnataka state forest protectors and vigilantes’ association, said that the blood donation camp is held realizing the scarcity of blood due to COVID-19. “Rs 66,666 will be donated to COVID-19 fund of the chief minister,” he said.

Udupi district government employee’s association president, Subrahmanya Sherigar, Udupi zone forest officer Clifford Lobo, state government employee’s association parishat member, Kiran Hegde, Abhilash, Devaraj Pana and others were present.
