Mangaluru, Jun 16: Police personnel of Ullal station here, on Monday June 15 night, arrested a person and registered a case against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He has been acused of raping a minor girl thereby making her pregnant.

The arrested man has been identified as Lavakumar alias Shravan, a resident of Valachil.

Shravan works in a fast food canteen at Thokkottu. He has been accused of raping the daughter of the canteen's owner. The 16-year-old is pregnant now. Her mother has filed a police complaint.

The girl's mother owns a fast food canteen near Thokkottu. She had hired Lavakumar, who she had come to know through some distant contacts, to work in the canteen. It is said that at night he used to stay in the owner's residence. On these occasions, he developed a closeness with the girl, misused the opportunity and trust, and raped her, it is said.

Ullal police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
