Mangaluru: Coast gets good rainfall - man washed away, houses damaged

Mangaluru, Jun 18: The coast got good rainfall with yawning gaps in between. Ankola received 16 cm rainfall, the highest in the state, followed by Moodbidri's 15 cm. The city received 10 cm of rainfall. Most places on the coast got between nine and 12 cm rain. The department has sounded the yellow alert on June 19, 20, and 21 and orange alert on June 18 and 22.
In a tragic incident which happened at Bollamballi within Kalthodu gram panchayat limit near Uppunda in Byndoor taluk, a person who fell into a stream in which rainwater flows was washed away due to the force of water. He has been identified as Gopu Shukra Naik (58). When walking by the side of the stream near his home, he accidentally slipped and fell into the stream, upon which he was washed away. His body was not found till late evening on Wednesday.
Heavy rains damaged some houses in Karkala and Kaup. The houses of Kamala Bai and Shakuntala living at Parubettu in Cherkady village in Brahmavar taluk were damaged due to lightning. The house of Jayalakshmi Achar at Baikady Gandhinagar and also of Sayeedabi at Haradi were partially damaged due to fallen trees.
Vehicular movement at Parkala was paralysed for some time at Parkala town after slush got accumulated on the road. The sea remains turbulent.
